5 stars for the fact there is a water fountain next to the toilets in terminal 4s, that not only fills your bottle automatically, but also shows you how many plastic bottles were saved. Thumbs up for that!

1 star for the fact that it takes ages to reach the gates because of the internal shuttle train (free of course, runs every few minutes).

It feels like a maze and you're not sure which way to go. Not that I got lost but you have to be alert and watch where you're going.

CONSIDER ADDING 30 MIN TO YOU TIME PLANNING, so you won't be in a rush to get from one terminal to the other.

Also, it could have been nice to have power outlets next to every gate. There are some here and there but not always close to the seats.

Lastly, I bought chocolate in the duty free which I opened when I got home. It was dry and old and I had to throw it in the trash. First time this ever happened to me.

Therefore I give this airport a 3 star rating. Hope you improve in the future! 🙏

Nice airport, very busy but quick.

Large airport with many terminals, but very well organized in terms of passenger control and traffic control.

The immigration Ques can be long but they moved quickly between the arrivals and departures.

The duty free area are huge, wonderful choices of the food and beverages.

Most international flights use the terminal 4 satellite however this means additional 10-15 mins to your post security are inter terminal trains do run very busy.

Brilliant connections to Europe and specially Latin America.

Overall a job well done by team Madrid Airport!

This review is for Terminal 1, United. Check-in was pain-free. Lack of signage is an issue at this airport, but take out your liquids (in clear bags) and electronics like laptops, tablets, etc. for the x-ray machines and clearing security. Passport control is immediately after and you can see this was not set up to handle the amount of travelers they receive.

Terminal 1, A Gates – There were other airlines as part of that terminal in addition to United, and clearly not the right amount of services for those gates or travelers. This airport had the space, but no one has decided to use it wisely.

Food: 1/10 – Abysmal. One cafeteria style eatery that had well over 40 people in line, which took 45 minutes (I timed a guy in the queue). Food options looked decent for breakfast - fried eggs, bacon, croissants, with coffee, juices, etc. - but staff were unable to handle the influx of travelers and manage moving the line. The lack of signage also meant 90% of travelers did not bus their own table (seriously, shame on humans for thinking someone else exists to clean up after them) and most tables were a mess.

Shopping: 2/10 – The world’s smallest WH Smith and one sad duty free store.

Restrooms: 4/10 – Needed a good clean, particularly the family restroom.

Disappointing for an international airport of this size. Plan your departure accordingly.

A lively airport with its distinctive roof. The airport is ranked among busiest airports Europe as well in the world by number of passengers. Its massive size is like a small city with several shops, restaurants to serve passengers. There are 4 main terminals T1, T2, T3, and T4 connected by trains, moving escalators. There are many signs, electronic displays to help passengers navigate throughout the airport.

I was at this airport for the first time at this airport. My overall experience in the airport was satisfactory. The only thing I didn't like was the horribly smelling toilets. I don't know if it's a situation every day. The rest is good, staff, atmosphere etc..
